Spinningfield's XYZ Development Nominated For National Building Award

The work of Sweco’s building teams on the pioneering ‘XYZ’ development in Manchester has contributed to the scheme being shortlisted for Building Magazine’s prestigious Project of the Year award.

The nine-storey, 140,000 sq. ft. landmark building in Spinningfields is the first new commercial building of its kind in the UK, in terms of delivering flexible and scalable infrastructure that will enable tenants to completely customise their space.

Our team delivered a full scope of design consultancy services, which included mechanical and electrical systems design, BREEAM assessment, fire engineering and vertical transportation.

The building comprises seven levels of flexible shell and core office space to a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard, with a modular and scalable plant and a thermal wheel and recovery units to temper outdoor air.

The Building Awards are the industry’s longest running and most prestigious recognition of excellence, and allow companies across all aspects of the sector to have their achievements recognised.

Geoffrey Palmer, Sweco UK’s operations director for buildings, said: “We’ve been working with Allied London on the Spinningfields’ re-development since 2002 and have been involved in various projects in that time, including One Spinningfields, 3 Hardman Square and The Avenue.

“The design of the XYZ building offers a range of unique aspects for the technology and media sectors and we’re delighted our work has been recognised. This nomination is further evidence to the quality of development we’re creating in Spinningfields.”

The Building Awards winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Tuesday 7th November.
