Leading engineering, environment and design consultancy Sweco UK is celebrating a successful 12 months since its rebrand from Grontmij in April last year.

In the UK, Sweco employs 800 people and has particular expertise in the fields of energy, transportation, environment, asset management, sustainable buildings and water.

Sweco UK managing director, Max Joy, said: “Rebranding to Sweco has enabled us to plan for sustainable, profitable growth. We had strong, positive momentum from day one of the rebrand and our teams have thrived upon the new and exciting opportunities that this brings.”

The consultancy has secured a significant number of high value multi-disciplinary projects since the rebrand. These include the transportation team being appointed as a design partner for the delivery of improved facilities across British Antarctic Survey research stations in the Antarctic over the next seven years.

Sweco UK’s energy unit has continued the development of Galway Wind Farm, the largest of its kind in Ireland, with the capacity to generate enough green energy to power around 84,000 homes, while the environment team was named on the National Grid Land Regeneration Framework.

In December 2016, Sweco’s water and asset management team was appointed by Irish Water to assist them with the delivery of a broad-ranging modernisation project relating to their real time systems, data and analytics capabilities, whilst in March this year the consultancy’s buildings unit claimed its third BREEAM Assessor Company of the Year Award.

Commenting on the UK consultancy’s past 12 months, president and CEO of Sweco, Tomas Carlsson, said: “The UK is an important market for us where we see a lot of potential. The integration of our UK business has exceeded our expectations both in terms of pace and performance.

“This has been achieved by developing and empowering a strong leadership team who are efficiently delivering Sweco’s collaborative multi-disciplinary approach by inspiring both their people and our clients.

“We are confident that our UK consultancy will go from strength-to-strength and look forward to supporting Max and his team as they continue to expand our operations.”

Looking to the future, Max Joy said “We are delighted with the progress that Sweco UK has made over the past 12 months. Key in our continuous growth plan is the recruitment of more talented individuals to complement our highly skilled employees. This will ensure that we further establish our position in the UK market as the most approachable and committed partner with recognised expertise.”

Sweco UK has offices in Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Maidenhead, Manchester, Newcastle, Peterborough and Solihull. The consultancy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sweco, which has its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.
