Sweco helps Canadian industrial company Enerkem find its way in Europe

The future lies in circular production and the infinite reuse of waste flows. And if Enerkem has anything to do with it, it should be possible in 2020. The Canadian company plans to build a large-scale chemical plant where domestic waste from 700,000 households will be converted into methanol. AkzoNobel will then use part of the methanol production among others for the production of many everyday products. A similar plant is already up and running in Canada, and plans are now afoot for the building of the same kind of installations in Europe. Rotterdam is the first location for which those plans have taken on concrete form. Sweco has been called in to map out the legislation and regulations the company will have to deal with.
