Sweco up for hat-trick of Scottish Civil Engineering Awards

We’re proud to reveal that Sweco has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2020-21 Scottish Civil Engineering Awards, thanks to key involvement in three landmark projects.

Nominated for their innovation, excellence in the built environment and general contribution to quality of life, Cardowan SWMP, Glasgow Airport Investment Area and Sparling Bridge have all been recognised as leading examples of civil engineering over the past two years.

Glasgow Airport Investment Area

Project overview:

Developing a new manufacturing innovation district in Renfrewshire…

We’re proud to have been recognised for Sweco’s feasibility reporting, planning, design, contract preparation and contract administration on this particular project. Our goal was of course to provide innovative new infrastructure for Renfrewshire, but more importantly we were driven by a vision that ultimately facilitates the creation of 10,000 new jobs – I’m hugely proud of the community benefits we were able to deliver during the project life cycle.

Sandy Ross Operations Director, Sweco

Cardowan SWMP

Project overview:

New surface water management features, creating green spaces and reducing flood risk…

I’m delighted with the way that our multi-disciplinary teams collaborated through all project phases from feasibility to construction supervision. I’m proud that a project to provide flood relief, using SuDs; innovative flow controls and watercourse daylighting has also enabled new development spaces and turned some unloved areas into highly valued amenity space with links into wider greenspace projects.

Geraldine Angus Operations Manager, Sweco

Sparling Bridge

Project overview:

New bridge installed for walkers, wheelers and cyclists, providing access over the Cree in Newton Stewart…

We’re extremely proud to have led this exciting project, which will provide huge benefits to the town of Newton Stewart. The new Sparling Bridge significantly improves active travel links in the town, contributes to improved flooding resilience in the area and is an attractive focal point for the community.

Ruairidh Mackay Technical Manager, Sweco
