Energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation for public sector buildings

6 November 2020
On 1 October 2020, the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) was launched by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

The scheme, which will be delivered by Salix, will offer £1bn of grant funding to cover capital cost for energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation projects within public sector non-domestic buildings in England.

Decision tree model for PSDS application:

1) Existing heating system

2) Assessment:

  • Space availability
  • Energy efficiency rating
  • Building age

3) Outputs:

  • Low carbon heating option
  • Energy efficiency upgrades
  • Recommendations

With support from the Low Carbon Skills Fund, public sector organisations can seek expert advice to identify and develop energy efficient and low carbon heat upgrade projects. This funding also covers the preparation of compelling applications.

At Sweco, we are working with our clients to identify opportunities where appropriate low carbon heating options can be used alongside energy efficiency upgrades to buildings. We are ensuring our clients maximise the benefits of the PSDS as they work towards the decarbonisation of heat within their building portfolio.

We can offer:

• Site investigation
• Data analysis
• Technical assessment
• Energy engineering
• Financial assessment
• PSDS application support
• District heating design
• Business case development
