Shane Finn sets the bar high for future apprentice graduates
Achieving IEng MICE is a mark of excellence in the industry. Covered over a five-year period, the Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship programme involves work-based learning and academic studies to achieve an accredited degree qualification.
Shane started his apprenticeship with Sweco seven years ago. Having already completed a BTEC Level 3 in Engineering, he didn’t need to attend college as a requirement. However, after two years he decided to pursue a Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma at Leeds College of Building before then going on to do his degree in Civil Engineering.
Shane talks about what his recent achievement means to him,
“When I found out I was one of the first three apprentices to pass the EPA and achieve IEng status, I was quite shocked as I had expected more people to go for it. I’d always intended to progress to a degree and I’m so grateful to Sweco for their investment. Gaining IEng recognition with the ICE is the biggest achievement of my career so far.”
