Sweco Highlights Sector Expertise at Innovate East
The event, organised by Anglian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water, took place in September in Ipswich and saw industry experts and delegates take part in a series of workshops, hackathons and ‘sprints’.
We were on-hand to support the Innovation Hub, a dedicated space to showcase our knowledge, expertise and capabilities to aid future development in the industry.
This included parametric modelling – a Nordic technique for automating repeatable work – and ‘zero drawing projects’, which is an innovative approach that uses a single digital render rather than masses of drawings, leading to fewer queries and errors on-site.
In addition, VR and AR have the potential to be powerful tools for a range of stakeholders – from designers to the public – and the Innovation Hub held interactive displays to demonstrate the very latest in both technologies.
The event also represented the first time we collaborated closely with MLM – an engineering consultancy the business acquired in May - whose local presence and engineering know-how proved invaluable across the three-day programme.
Andy Sang, Sweco UK’s director of Water and Asset Management, said: “Pooling together Sweco and MLM’s sector insight and knowledge was a great way to demonstrate some of the ways we are creating fantastic value for our partners.
“Together in partnership with Anglian Water, we are working towards achieving AMP7 – the five-year development plan that will drive efficiencies and deliver business results for the water company – and this event enabled us to demonstrate the innovations we are using to deliver the programme.”
Under the banner of ‘local presence, global expertise’, Sweco’s sponsorship and support of Innovate East follows participation in the event for @one Alliance, the partnership working to deliver Anglian Water’s ongoing capital investment programme.
Sweco has been part of the @one Alliance since its inception in 2004 and is set to be part of this unique model until it is retendered in 2030.
