Sweco Named as a Finalist in UK Social Mobility Awards

24 July 2019
Sweco has been shortlisted for a national award in recognition of its work on a range of local and UK-wide initiatives to support social mobility.

We have been named as a finalist in the Community Programme of the Year category of the UK Social Mobility Awards, established by London-based charity Making the Leap.

Now in their third year, the awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of businesses and organisations across the country that are working to advance social mobility.

Sweco was shortlisted for its work with a range of community partners to improve access to jobs and apprenticeships, inspire young people to consider studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) from an early age, and its hands-on support for a range of employment and mental health initiatives in Yorkshire.

During 2018, Sweco created 36 work experience opportunities, 18 student placements and 29 apprenticeships and our 900 employees volunteered over 1,000 hours of their time to support community and STEM engagement activities.

Clare Day, environmental & CSR manager, at Sweco UK said: “Our approach to social mobility is rooted in a simple belief that good corporate citizens share their success by creating social value in the communities they operate in.

“Sweco could not give as much as it does without the generosity of our talented and enthusiastic people. We’re proud that so many of our team are committed to inspiring young and vulnerable people about exciting career opportunities in engineering, to enhance social mobility across the UK.”

The winners will be announced at an event on 10th October. Other finalists include KPMG, Nissan Motor Manufacturing, Simmons & Simmons, HM Revenue and Customs and Reed Smith.
