Sweco Supports Water Sector Innovation At Innovate East Event
Sweco will showcase how its expertise is helping to solve key challenges faced by the water and wastewater industry at the inaugural Innovate East event (10th – 12th September).
Innovate East, organised by Anglian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water, will see delegates from around the world gather to develop solutions to a range of strategic challenges facing the sector and society at large.
As part of the event, experts from across Sweco will demonstrate its capabilities in parametric design, the scaling up or down of modular builds, which can reduce design time by 25 per cent, and ‘zero drawings projects’, a digital approach to design that has been proven to cut project timescales by 15 per cent and halve the number of site queries.
We will also sponsor the ‘Sweco Innovation Makers Hub/Tent’, the event’s focal point and space for suppliers of both Anglian Water and Essex & Sussex Water to showcase innovations including drones, virtual reality (VR) and 3D printing.
Over the course of the three-day event, participants will take part in a series of hackathons and ‘sprints’ – frameworks designed to quickly address problems by fast-tracking the inception, prototyping and testing of an idea – around one of four core themes: social purpose, natural capital, digital twins and leakage.
The event will also feature colleagues from UK engineering consultancy MLM, part of Sweco, who will demonstrate VR technologies.
Andy Sang, Sweco UK’s director of Water & Asset Management said, said: “Innovate East is an opportunity for Sweco to showcase combined expertise from across our network of international offices. By applying cutting edge technologies, and pooling our insight and knowledge, we are not only helping to create value for our partners like Anglian Water, but also create industry-wide change and solve some of the biggest challenges facing the sector.”
Sweco’s sponsorship of Innovate East comes following our successful participation at Anglian Water’s recent engagement event for the @one Alliance in July. The event saw members of Anglian Water’s @one Alliance showcase how innovations in areas such as digital, health and safety and customer interactions could help deliver AMP7 – Anglian Water’s next five-year development plan.
Under a banner of ‘local presence, global expertise’, the Sweco delegation, which contained experts from across our UK, Swedish and Norwegian offices, highlighted six areas where we can add value to the @one Alliance’s activity.
The @one Alliance is a partnership of consultants, contractors and stakeholders, including Anglian Water, working together to deliver Anglian Water’s ongoing capital investment programme. Sweco has been part of the @one Alliance since its inception in 2004, and is set to be part of this unique model until it is retendered in 2030.
Sweco currently has 52 employees operating in the @one Alliance, including Lindsay Taylor, who was recently appointed as the @one Alliance’s Innovation Manager. Sweco’s work with Anglian Water in developing a new digital GEO-PLM platform was shortlisted for the Design Innovator award at the 2019 NCE awards.
