This is the first Facebook data center built outside the United States. Our Swedish design team proposed a number of innovative solutions to adapt the building to the Nordic climate, and to make it one of the most energy efficient computing facilities ever built.
Client: Facebook and Emerson
Scheme: LEED BD+C
Phase 1 responsibilities:
Phase 1 achieved the LEED Gold certification
Phase 2 responsibilites:
Phase 2 is targeting the LEED Platinum rating - the highest available under this scheme.
The development has been designed to take advantage of the local environmental conditions including the pumping of massive volumes of arctic air into the building to cool the server hall. The ventilation system with evaporative cooling has also been designed to additionally reduce energy use. The entire complex is powered by hydroelectricity. Many of the implemented design solutions have never been seen before in a data center.
