Location: Stanley, The Falkland Islands
Sweco provided our client with a full understanding of the environmental liabilities associated with the ground conditions of two sites on The Falkland Islands.
Sweco were commissioned to identify and assess liabilities arising from ground conditions in relation to the long-term lease of several properties on the Falklands. Following this project, Sweco directly provided consulting engineering services on another area of the Falklands for this client.
The client was assessing development requirements for a new base of operations on the Falklands to support their exploration and extraction of sub-sea oil reserves in the area. As part of the development, the client was assessing lease requirements for several plots of land, all of which required an assessment of baseline conditions with which the leases could be set against.
Due to the remote project location we had to design and deliver a practical and effective ground investigation using plant and personnel from a local company on the Island, which was managed by the UK sourced specialist, who mobilised to the site for the duration of the works. All appropriate overseas specific permits and authorisations were in place, which helped us complete the works seamlessly and ahead of the schedule.
