Location: Galway, Ireland
Sweco supported developer client SSE in the development and construction of their Galway Wind Park Project locatedin the West of Ireland. The park which consists of four clusters – Cloosh, Lettercraffow, Seecon and Ugool will be the largest onshore wind farm in Ireland once fully operational, with a capacity of 169MW.
Responsible for the design of the Turbine foundations across the 4 clusters, difficult and varied ground conditions led to the implementation of 5 different foundation types across the 58 Siemens 3MW turbines to achieve the most
economical and practical solution. Sweco also undertook a full time technical advisory role on site; providing supervision and reporting of ground works and monitoring the delivery of foundation construction works whilst supporting SSE by way of quality management and change control throughout the construction process.
The project is considered a huge success and received the accolades of “Green Project of the Year” (2017) and prize for ‘Excellence in Sustainability” (2016) at the Irish Construction Industry Awards.
