Contemporary, craft apartments benefit from the stunning vistas across the river Orwell.

KEY FACTS

Client: DPL Group

Service: Buildings

Main Contractor: RG Carter

Architect: Ingleton Wood

Value: £25m

BACKGROUND

The Winerack had stood unfinished over the Ipswich waterfront for a decade.

Ipswich Wharf Developments, a local developer, bought the building with a view to restarting the development.

SOLUTION

The Winerack is one of the tallest residential buildings in Ipswich at 19-storeys high, including 147 apartments and 5,000 square feet of commercial space.

All of the apartments have access to a fully automated car stacking system, storing up to 250 cars at any one time via a system of three turntables and lifts. Designed and installed within an eight-storey high section within the centre of the building, this car stacker will allow a car to be delivered to the ground floor within two minutes of the occupant leaving their apartment.

Sweco provided the detailed design of the MEP services for DPL (the M&E subcontractor).
