Sweco have been appointed to deliver a flood protection scheme for the village of Comrie from outline design to completion.
Client: Perth & Kinross Council
Location: Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland
The village of Comrie is located within a Special Landscape Area in the Southern Highlands of Scotland at the confluence of the rivers Earn, Lednock and the Water of Ruchill. Due to the village’s history of flooding, Sweco have been appointed to deliver a flood protection scheme from outline design through to completion on site. Sweco’s multidisciplinary project team include hydrologists, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, ecologists, landscape architects and environmental consultants.
The nature of this development requires an environmental impact assessment for which Sweco’s landscape team are in the process of producing a landscape and visual impact assessment with supporting fully verified photomontages to illustrate the effects of the scheme. The landscape team are working closely with engineers to advise on the location of flood walling and embankments to minimise adverse effects upon tree cover, landscape character and views within this sensitive location.
As part of the commission the landscape team are developing landscape mitigation and enhancement proposals for the wider area including woodland habitat creation.
