Our transportation experts plan and design highway networks that support economic growth and connect people, goods and services. We are at the forefront of the digital revolution – using technology to enhance our delivery and the safety and sustainability of our services across urban and inter-urban transport networks. Our team of over 250 professionals are located across twelve offices within the UK and Ireland, and operate through regional centres of excellence to deliver both local and national projects for a wide ranging spectrum of public and private clients. Working with our colleagues from transport planning and environment, we deliver schemes through the full lifecycle – from early business case through to construction supervision. At our core is an ethos that works collaboratively with our clients and partners and supports an inclusive and innovative environment.
In today’s world where the volume of traffic in our cities and highways is ever increasing, placing more and more pressure on our networks, it is imperative that we maximise route capacity and real time driver information to achieve safe and reliable journey times for all.
Sweco’s transportation technology team are highly experienced in designing intelligent transport systems and their associated power and communication networks and supporting civil infrastructure. As well as system design itself, our professionals inspect, test and commission systems during construction and into the operational phase.
Our ITS design capability covers all the elements of a managed motorway such as overhead gantry installations, variable message signs, CCTV cameras, road surface monitoring loops, automatic number plate recognition systems, city centre car parking systems and real time bus information systems for both national government agency and local authority clients.
Sweco’s developed Smart Traffic software controls traffic signals from the cloud, provides a real-time traffic flow optimization, user group prioritization (e.g. cyclists) and digital information about traffic signals. This allows current road users and future self-driving vehicles to travel safely and comfortably through cities.
