Project story
A standalone (non-EIA) townscape and visual impact assessment was undertaken for a proposed residential development comprising two blocks: one of 10 floors and the other rising to 19 floors.
The assessment focused on a range of townscape issues including: the relationship of one block to the existing low-rise character of Ilford High Road (a central shopping street); the positive effect of the development on the streetscape character of a minor street and service areas to the rear; and the overall effect of the taller building within what has been an area of relatively low-rise character.
The latter required consideration of the overall strategic regeneration objectives for the area (close to a new Cross Rail station) and was able to demonstrate that the taller tower would sit well within the context of other higher rise development planned for the area. The scope of service included an appraisal report as well as production of verified photomontage visualisations.
