Our Solution

Working with the Welsh Government, the Welsh Police and the local planning authorities, Sweco finalised the Traffic Management Plans outlining how the turbine’s components would be delivered from the port of origin to the site. To facilitate this delivery and the increase in construction traffic, Sweco provided highway design services to agree the S278 detailed design of the offsite works and a network of new and upgraded private tracks, crane standings and site compounds.

Sweco also advised the client on its negotiations with a neighbouring wind farm site to share offsite construction activities thereby reducing costs and assisted with the appointment of the contractor. Moving forward, Sweco will be retained to provide technical support to the contractor during the construction of the onsite and offsite highway works and to provide advice relating to the associated S278 agreements. Sweco will also assist with the temporary closure of public highway and public rights of way within the site to facilitate construction activities.
