Active Travel

Active Travel

Sweco is committed to promoting more sustainable and active modes of transport and travel. The transport planning team has extensive experience in planning and delivering active travel projects across Ireland and the UK. We work with key stakeholders to develop and implement strategies and infrastructure that aims to connect communities with important areas and facilities including town centres, healthcare and education.

Our team supports clients from higher education, health and local authorities to private sector developers with an interest in achieving planning consent and integrating their developments with new infrastructure. From designing new cycle routes in urban and rural areas to undertaking travel behaviour change campaigns that promote walking and cycling to universities, we carry out standalone projects or work as part of a wider masterplan.

Transport Planning

Transport Planning

Our approach to developing integrated transport strategies examines how all modes of transport-pedestrian, bicycle, public transport, car can contribute to developing long term solutions to transport problems.

Sweco carries out studies for clients to inform the decision-making process, whether making recommendations for access improvements to developments on behalf of the developer, informing major infrastructure projects or an assessment of impact on roads to access new housing. We help achieve clients’ planning objectives, with robust, sustainable proposals.

Our work considers the needs of all forms of transport, including access, parking, cycle routes and changes to road layouts, as well as integration with public transport hubs. The team also has experience in planning and implementing communication and engagement activities as part of the project delivery.

Sweco works with clients, using the latest modelling tools as part of a wider package, to help achieve desired outcomes for developments and improvements to complex transport requirements. We support clients throughout the economic assessment process, in analysing the operational, economic and environmental factors of the scheme, using recognised appraisal methodologies and modelling tools, such as TUBA, COBALT and Quadro.
