Sweco provides pro bono Building Control for Embassy Village homeless charity

Sweco is proud to support a number of Social Value initiatives across the country, drawing on multi-disciplinary design, engineering and consultancy expertise to make a meaningful difference to some exciting projects, and #TransformingSocietyTogether with some fantastic causes in the process.

One of our most recent and rewarding community contributions was in Greater Manchester, where we were invited by Arcadis to assist as pro bono Approved Inspector at Embassy Village MCR – a much-needed charity that helps people break the cycle of homelessness by providing a home, skills training, and wraparound support.

Sid Williams, co-founder and director at Embassy Village reflects:

“This is Embassy’s first ever build and would have been unaffordable and simply impossible without the generosity of an incredible wider design & build project team. A key member of that kind team is Sweco who have been significantly supporting us free of charge for four years now.

I’d personally like to say how grateful I am for the kindness of Sweco and for the very high quality of work being undertaken.”

Our team is providing the whole Building Control service to the project from design stage assessment, statutory consultations with the Fire Service, and all site inspections up to completion and occupation which will include the issue of a Final Certificate.

The scheme will eventually comprise 40 homes for ex-homeless people, a staff accommodation unit, a village hall with training, counselling, and office facilities as well as sports facilities and gardens. Ultimately, Embassy Village will give residents a live practice experience of managing their own home in a supported environment, with the close support and guidance of a skilled resettlement team.

Paul McNeill, Building Control director at Sweco says:

“We take immense pride in contributing to great causes, and this project not only enhances quality of life for individuals, but also creates a lasting legacy for future generations.”
