Sweco relocates Leeds HQ to landmark No.1 Whitehall Riverside development

Sweco has relocated its Leeds office to No. 1 Whitehall Riverside, marking a significant milestone for the business and reinforcing its long-term commitment to the city and the wider Yorkshire region.

The move brings more than 200 colleagues together on a single floor in a purpose-designed 15,000 sq ft workspace in the heart of the city centre – representing a major step forward from the company’s previous home at Grove House in Chapel Allerton, where the Leeds team was based for over 25 years.

Speaking of the move, Max Joy, President of Sweco UK, said:

“Our move to No. 1 Whitehall Riverside is about more than a new location. It reflects who we are and where we’re going. Bringing our people together in a modern, collaborative environment strengthens how we work, while our position in the heart of Leeds brings us closer to our clients and partners.

This move supports our ambition to grow, connect and continue delivering projects that create lasting, positive impact.”

A space shaped by people, purpose and design

Since announcing the move in October 2025, colleagues have played a central role in shaping the workspace – from overall layout to finer design details. The result is an environment that supports collaboration, flexibility and wellbeing, aligned closely with Sweco’s purpose of transforming society together.

At the heart of the design is the ethos “One Space. One Team” – creating an open and transparent environment where people come first.

Sustainability has been embedded throughout, with materials carefully selected from environmentally responsible manufacturers. From flooring to furniture, the design supports Sweco’s wider sustainability ambitions.

Natural light and the building’s riverside setting have also influenced the design, with warm tones and a palette inspired by the River Aire and Leeds skyline creating a modern, welcoming workplace.

Designed for collaboration and flexibility

The office has been designed to support a more dynamic and connected way of working. A mix of open-plan desking, collaboration areas and social spaces is balanced with quieter zones and focus booths, enabling both teamwork and individual concentration.

This activity-based approach allows colleagues to move seamlessly between spaces depending on the task – whether collaborating in social hubs, meeting clients in dedicated rooms, or focusing in quieter areas.

Strengthening connections in the heart of Leeds

Located beside the River Aire and within walking distance of the train station, No. 1 Whitehall Riverside places Sweco at the centre of the city’s professional and commercial community.

The new location enhances access to clients, partners and collaborators, while supporting more sustainable ways of working through excellent public transport links and active travel options.
