£12m luxury seaside hotel in iconic seaside resort

As part of a major reinvestment programme into the northern seaside town of Blackpool, the owners of the promenade theme park, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, commissioned a luxury 120-room hotel featuring a 90-seat restaurant and state-of-the-art conferencing and event facilities catering for up to 200 delegates.

The move to develop the Boulevard Hotel came after the success of the Big Blue Hotel, the first hotel venture from Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which sits to the south of the amusement park and opened its doors in 2003.

Rooms at the Boulevard Hotel offer a variety of views including Blackpool promenade, a neighbouring park, the coastline or into the theme park itself.

We were appointed by the contractor, Truman Design and Build, to deliver Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s vision of creating luxury accommodation and a new stylish hotel that sets the standard for future hospitality developments in one of Britain’s best-known destinations.

The scheme comprised a new five-story building, together with the complete refurbishment of the adjoining two-storey premises – previously Coasters Bar and Restaurant.

By adopting a flexible approach to the design and build programme, we were able to successfully overcome the issues caused by varying levels across the two sites, together with challenging site restrictions posed by the adjoining buildings and multiple spells of extreme weather during construction.

We worked together with the client and contractor to successfully deliver a phased scheme that enabled the hotel to partially open ahead of its completion and capitalise on key trading months.

“We’re delighted to be able to build on the success of the Big Blue Hotel by offering both leisure and business visitors another hotel which exceeds all expectations.

“This is a continuation of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s ongoing investment and a pivotal moment for the town. We’re proud to be at the very heart of a transformation that will see Blackpool become one of the UK’s most exciting resorts.” – Amanda Thompson OBE, managing director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach
