Project story
Sweco’s landscape architects together with the transport planning team developed a proposal for a cycleway as part of a route linking the village of Loans in South Ayrshire to the seaside resort of Troon. The existing footway was narrow and in very poor condition, the proposal included the widening of the footway to 3m and the creation of build-outs into the carriageway, these build-outs provide a bioretention function and include tree and shrub planting with decorative gravel and boulders. They also include block paving to support seating spaces which look out over a golf course.
A street furniture palette was developed, and a bold colourful approach was agreed upon with the client. Colour themes were proposed for the seating and railing elements accompanied by bright sculptural cycle parking points.
