Solar Farms, Truro
Sweco has been working closely with Elgin Energy and solar farm site end users to derive plant specifications and assist in obtaining rants of planning permission for solar farm projects throughout the UK. The Carnemough site was initially refused by Cornwall Council, but ranted on appeal and is being brought forward with a 6.7MW capacity, with a view to expansion to 10.1MW.

- Services
- Acoustic assessment and design
The Challenge
Provide an Acoustic Plant Specification and Report to support a planning application. The project has since been expanded to cover the assessment of noise implication associated with non-material amendments, which comprise the replacement of containerised inverters with string inverters, plus a section 73 (TCPA) application to cover an expansion in capacity.
The area surrounding the site is extremely quiet, meaning that the originally proposed containerised inverters required a mitigation strategy, in order to ensure no impact upon the amenity of neighbouring receptors.
Key Service
- Replacement of the containerised inverters with much quieter string inverters resulted in no tangible noise impacts at off-site receptors in the area.
