Self-contained student accommodation in Nottingham city centre

Having already worked with us on their St Albans development in Leeds, student accommodation specialists, Vita, engaged us to help with their latest residential project on Station Street in Nottingham. The ongoing student scheme comprises 323 self-contained apartments, offering high-quality student accommodation, close to the city’s railway station.

Our brief was to attend design meetings, provide design assessments, liaise with the Fire Service and deliver ongoing site inspection reports.

Challenges existed regarding the fire safety of the building, due to a single staircase with extended travel distances and open plan kitchens within the apartments. A fire engineered solution was required in order to ensure that the design was fully-compliant with fire safety guidance.

We received a detailed fire strategy, using radiation assessments and computational fluid dynamics, as well as including a sprinkler system. Following a consultation with the Fire Service the project was approved under Part B (Fire Safety) of the Building Regulations.
